Drawing from the personal stories of young women in three of the epicenters of North America, ‘In Her City’ explores their diversity, intersection and commonality.
Clementine works five jobs to keep her NY dream alive, and Ruby wants to teach young women how to defend themselves. Lindsay isn’t sure she wants a boyfriend, while Izzy is trying not to lose hers to an all-consuming live-streaming job. Each of the seventeen stories in this ensemble film was a collaboration between the actor and the director that grew from several months of meetings, conversations and the gradual focusing of a story derived from individual experience.
The characters are all inspired by the personal lives of these women and production was executed entirely through improvisation. Common themes emerge around body image, race, social media, sexuality, and family, giving the film a universality that enables the viewer to witness the world of young women through a unifying lens.
